The fifth firing took place on Sunday, December 26, 2004. This will be the last
one for the year. I took a flashlight out at 6AM and got things rolling- turned
on the Christmas lights, lit a fake log in the firebox, and started carrying
food out the food table. The temperature was in the low twenties so i came back
inside and put on an additional set of clothes. Potter Ruth arrived around
thirty minutes later with her load of food and goodies. As usual, the full moon
added to the ambiance, along with the beaver slapping its tail. Molly stalked
around just out of sight waiting for a stray hot dog. Many thanks to all
the friends who came by to help out, keep us company, keep us awake, and
entertained !! At long last, Cone 10 melted around 9:30PM, top and bottom. We
used a combination of split pine, red cedar, and cypress. I don't think I would
buy cypress again- Putting in more than one thin slat at a time caused heavy
smoking. Click on thumbnails to enlarge the pictures.
